Ecostamps: How It Works
Ecostamps couldn't be easier to use for editors or writers.
Step 1: Open an Account (Editors)
Nothing difficult here. Just your standard fare about
the organization: name, address, web site, email, and so on.
What Types of Organizations Can Register?
Any group that wants to accept submissions online.
- Literary journals
- Poetry magazines
- e-zines
- Trade publications
- Screenwriting contests
- Independent presses
- Literary agents
Step 2: Create a Submission Form
Ecostamps has an easy-to-use wizard that guides a new
user step-by-step through the process of creating a submission
form.
Step 3: Flip the Switch!
When the wizard has been completed, the editor will be
redirected to the Ecostamps console. Editors will use
the console to review submissions, change
reading periods, add a contest or two, process orders
for back issues, and much more.
Flipping the switch requires nothing more than adding
one line of code to an organization's web site. Wherever
the line of code is placed, an Ecostamps "Submit now!"
button will appear. When a visitor clicks the button,
the Ecostamps submission form will be launched.
What Happens Next?
Users visit the web site, click the "Submit now!" button,
and log in or open an account.
Once logged in, users select a category or contest,
copy-and-paste a submission into the form,
and include enclosures, such as a cover letter, if desired.
Before a submission will be processed, users must agree to
the terms and conditions of any release or agreement required
by the organization. Users may also include issues or a subscription
with their orders.
Once a submission has been accepted for review, users may log in to the
Ecostamps for Writers console
to edit or update the submission and track it through the review process.
How Much Does It Cost?
For organizations, Ecostamps for Editors is free.
Submissions through Ecostamps costs no more than a standard submission printed on
medium-grade paper that includes a cover letter and self-addressed stamped envelope, and
is sent with receipt confirmation through the U.S. Postal Service.
The benefits of Ecostamps to writers and editors are immense.
Yes, Ecostamps streamlines the submission and review process for editors.
Yes, Ecostamps provides writers an opportunity to correct that typo that was
somehow missed in the first sentence of the second paragraph.
Most Importantly
Ecostamps redefines the economic landscape for literary magazines
and poetry journals. It takes a portion of the dollars that would otherwise
fill the coffers of the U.S. Postal Service and puts it in the hands of
editors to defray publication costs and to provide revenue to pay authors.
In exchange, editors use Ecostamps
Report Cards to
complete the virtuous circle and
provide meaningful, substantive feedback to writers on their submissions.
It's a win-win-win. Editors win. Authors win.
Animals and the environment wins. And
don't forget the biggest winners: readers.
